Establishment of an Arboretum - Pilikula Nisargadhama


Implementing Agencies: Pilikula Nisargadhama and Mangalore University, Mangalore

 
Supplemented pre-existing initiative for ex-situ conservation of endemic species of western ghats and enabled planting of over 61,000 saplings in 236 species. This effort has supplemented the University of Mangalore database of fauna.
 
Objectives
 

bullet Floristic survey of the plants of the Western Ghats with particular reference to the identification of endemic and threatened plant species
bullet Collection of different plant species of Western Ghats, including endemic and endangered plants and their propagation in the nursery
bullet Planting and establishment of an Arboretum in about 85 acres in Pilikula Nisarga Dhama
bullet Afforestation in other areas of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama
